The St. Louis - Kansas City Carpenters Regional Health Plan is employing the services of Secova, a third party company, to validate all dependents in the Plan. This audit is being performed to ensure the Plan only provides benefits for qualified dependents.
Carpenters Dependent Audit will require a response from every member with a dependent covered under the Plan. Any lack of response may result in termination of health benefits for your dependent(s) under the Plan.
Secova will validate dependents listed as family members under our Plan by requesting documentation that supports the validity of each relationship to the member. Examples of such documentation would include a 2017 or 2018 Federal Income Tax return, birth certificate or certificate of adoption papers to prove your dependent's relationship to you.
Why are we doing this?
The audit will help us meet Department of Labor (DOL) compliance standards by verifying dependents who are eligible for benefits under the Plan. The Trustees must ensure the Fund’s health care dollars are only spent on our members and eligible dependents. Without such audits, research has shown health plans like ours may spend millions of dollars on individuals who are not entitled to benefits. Ultimately, this important cost-saving initiative will help you keep more of your paycheck.
Who do you need to verify?
All dependents enrolled in the St. Louis - Kansas City Carpenters Regional Health Plan must be verified by Secova, excluding dependents enrolled in the Carpenters Medicare Advantage Program through UnitedHealthCare.
What do you need to do? Watch your mail.
Covered members with dependents will receive an announcement letter from Secova early April. In mid-April, verification packets will be mailed. The verification packet will contain detailed instructions on how to submit verification documents for the audit. It is extremely important to watch for this information in the mail. This packet will be sent in an envelope with both the St. Louis - Kansas City Carpenters Regional Council and the Carpenters' Benefit Plans logos.
When will this take place?
Members will be asked to provide documentation for proof of dependent relationship no later than May 23, 2019. You can begin verifying your dependents once you receive your packet in April.* However, we advise you begin looking for these documents now, so you are prepared to submit them when you receive your verification packet in April. Each covered member will be required to provide proof of a dependent's relationship to the member (spouse, child, adopted child, etc.) by submitting the required documents to Secova electronically to their secure website, or by fax or mail. For mailed documentation, only copies of the original documents are requested, no originals.
*Do not submit documents to the Benefit Office. All documents should be sent to Secova after you receive your verification packet.
